What is a Cookie?

Cookies are snippets of information stored on your PC. These are in the form of a simple text file often containing a mix of letters and numbers and from a way of tracking your usage on an individual website. They are very common and almost all websites use them.

Also know as internet, web, browser or http cookies the created files goes back and forth from a website to your browser allowing that website to use the value stored in the cookie. This value gets used by the website to either track or manage your usage allowing websites to work more efficiently or on some sites, for them to work at all.



Where are cookies stored?

Cookies are stored directly on your hard drive by your browser. The next time you visit that website, your browser will check the folder related to that particular browser returning any linked cookies.



What are cookies used for?

A web site will have different uses for each cookie it stores on your PC. Typically each site you visit will leave a small number of cookies relating to the below:

  1. Session – allows a website to carry information across multiple pages, like when you login into a system it may save a value in a cookie to represent the fact you are logged in.
  2. Personalization – customised your browsers view of a website. This depends heavily on the website and can include something like selecting a colour for menu items or a preferred theme.
  3. Tracking – allows user activities and behaviours to be monitored, this can include how you landed on the website to what pages you visited.


How long do cookies last?

This depends on the configuration of the cookie and the reason for them being created. Some cookies will be deleted as soon as you close your browser, these relate to your session and may result in you being logged out of a system or your basket being emptied.

However some cookies have a specific timeframe as set by the website developers. Some tracking cookies can last several years.

Below are a list of the cookies currently used on the Fit2Travel webiste. We do try to limit cookie usage as much as possible on our websites but can not unfortunately cut out their usage fully.

Third party cookies

There may be third party cookies saved during payment on the Fit2Travel website.

These are created and managed by your bank directly and help them authorise your online payment. This will be via the means of 3d Secure, an additional layer of card holder authentication for online card payments.
